Dr. Yong Jun Cho of Neurosurgery at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital successfully performed duraplasty with biosynthetic cellulose in a patient whose skull had been dented and durals damaged by a motorcycle accident occurred on Apr 22.
The existing artificial dural was made up of an animal viscera which could cause a feeling of an alien substance on a patient and increase the risk of infection. However, the biosynthesis artificial dural graft developed by the regenerative medicine research allows the dural to settle completely as a part of the patients body within an average of 8 months and it is said to be more safe and used more frequently in Europe and the U.S.
