On July 3, Hallym University Doheon Academy held the 2nd Doheon Academic Symposium at the National Press Club of the Korea Press Center. The main theme was ‘Vision and Goals of Private Universities Selected for the Glocal University: Education Reform and Social Responsibility.’
The presidents from the three selected private universities gave presentations on their respective vision and goals. More than 130 people from all walks of life demonstrated great interest in the visions and the Glocal University.
Many leadership including Chairman Do-yeon Kim of Ulsan Industrial Academy, Executive Director Hee-Sung Yoon of Ilsong Educational Foundation, Regional Human Resources Policy Officer So-young Yoon of Ministry of Education, Chairman Ju Seong Kim of the Academy of Korean Studies, President Hong Rae Cho of Ulsan College, President Young-sik Moon of Hallym Polytechnic University, and Vice President Imsoo Choi of Konyang University participated in the symposium.
Following the opening remarks by Director Ho-Keun Song of the Hallym University Doheon Academy, and congratulatory remarks by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Ju-Ho Lee, Chairman Do-yoen Kim of Ulsan Industrial Academy, and Executive Director Hee-Sung Yoon of Ilsong Educational Foundation, President Seop Hyung Park of Hallym University Graduate School moderated the main session.
President Yeon-cheon Oh of the University of Ulsan delivered a speech about “The Innovation of the Role of the University for Enhancement of Regional Competitiveness: Establishing the Cooperation System between Universities, Industry, and Regions, and Aiming for the Future Values of Community.” President Seong Keun Kim of POSTECH gave a speech about “Global Competitiveness of Private Universities in the Science Technology Field: Issues and Prospects.” President Yanghee Choi of Hallym University covered “The New Hallym: K-University of the Future.”
Director Ho-Keun Song of the Hallym University Doheon Academy stated, “Glocal University 30 Project is a significant project that encourages universities to innovate as a source of national competitiveness. It is receiving high attention from academia and the education community as a whole in Korea.” He also added, “Before the project began in earnest, we could invite the presidents of private universities selected for the project today. I hope this symposium provides us with an opportunity to understand the Glocal University project and the visions of the three private universities.”
